Introduction
The 2023 Ashes series, officially known as the LV= Insurance Men’s Ashes Series, is currently underway between England and Australia. This historic Test cricket rivalry is taking place in June and July 2023 across five venues: Edgbaston, Lord’s, Headingley, Old Trafford, and The Oval.
Australia enters the series as the holders of the Ashes, having won the previous series at home with a 4-0 victory. This edition of the Ashes is also a part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship.
As the 73rd Ashes series overall and the 37th held in England, this year’s series marks a significant change. For the first time in the Ashes’ 139-year history, no Test matches will be played in August during an Ashes series hosted by England. The schedule was adjusted to June and July to avoid overlapping with The Hundred tournament, set to begin in August.
Another notable aspect of this Ashes series is that Australia did not play any tour matches against county teams, unlike previous editions. However, they did compete in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final against India in London a week before the Ashes series commenced.
